Surgery performed in the Civil War:
The surgical performances during the Civil War gave an effect on the health of the wounded soldiers that most didn't survive. The tools used during the surgeries were different from what we use from the modern times. such as the medicine were mostly ether and chroloform used for anesthesia during amputation or other operations. These surgeries had tools that were included with shears, bandages, a capital saw used for cutting large bones, artery forceps(tweezers) used for holding tissues, metacarpal saw usually used for cutting small bones, tenaculum a hook used for holding tissues.
The surgeries led a deadly toll on the injured soldiers as if some wouldn't survive after the amputations or removement of the bullets from rifles. The loss or infection with blood would lead to diseases.
Although the surgeries and support from the doctors and nurses didn't have that much knowledge and equipment that could fight off the infections and diseases that goes off at both sides. That concludes that the medicine could help a percentage of the wounded.
